Minituber Products
Tissue-Grown Corporation's founder, Carolyn Sluis pioneered commercial potato minituber production in 1983. Previously, the first generation of seed potato stock production was established by transplanting tissue culture plantlets to small field plots isolated from potential pests by high altitude. Availability of plantlets was limited and transplanting efficiencies were low due to the uncertain spring weather conditions. The minituber production system provides large volumes of an elite tuber planting stock with reduced agronomic management requirements and quickly became the industry standard. |
Tissue-Grown has developed a potato micropropagation system capable of delivering potato tissue cultures, ready for greenhouse planting, as well as greenhouse grown minitubers. The company has also developed novel microtuber production systems and is working on integration of the two systems in a greenhouse environment.
